Good morning ♡
For this last Feel Free Friday for the month of September 2016, I wanted to share with you an experience that brought on a great sense of peace & upliftment. If you know anything about me, then you know I love to read. my daughter has the same love for books & so I decided to take her to a bookstore I’ve known of but hadn’t visited before: A Different Booklist. What I thought would be a regular trip to get some new books for my little one’s collection, turned into a Spiritually connected visit that both my baby girl & I will never forget.
After driving for nearly and hour in bumper to bumper traffic, we finally arrived at our destination. I had heard so many good things about A Different Booklist, a local Black owned bookstore that carries a variety of titles by Black authors, but I hadn’t had the chance to visit until last week. Walking into the store, it was quaint & quiet, but the positive vibration was palpable. Itah Sadu, the owner, greeted us warmly & immediately took to my daughter as we looked at books together. With such pure joy, she & my mini-me chatted about children’s stories & shared jokes & laughter. After choosing my daughter’s books, they sat together sharing imaginative stories & laughed at the funny day to day things that kids chat about with adults 🙂 I chose my books & got to speaking with Ms. Itah myself. I commented on her way with children & thanked her for welcoming us so warmly & with such familiarity as though we have known each other for many years, as this was our first meeting. The comfort here made my daughter & I feel at ease & so at Peace. I didn’t feel rushed nor did I really want to leave anytime soon. Ms. Itah expressed much gratitude, as she spoke about the importance of having a safe space for all people to come & see what our African-Caribbean-Canadian- & Worldwide culture is all about. As much as it is a Black- owned store with predominantly Black-authored materials, everyone from all walks of life & cultures are welcome. What touched me deeply was her free spirit. Ms. Itah spoke about playing with her granddaughter right there in the store earlier before we came & she lit up so brightly talking about playing with her & how the importance of cultivating & encouraging the freeness of childhood its importance in their growth. Her inner child energy was evident & so refreshing. It reminded me of the importance of remembering how to be carefree sometimes is the best thing one can do to shed the stresses of life & just soak up the Love & energy that children bring out of us.
Ms. Itah signed my daughter’s favorite book of which she is the author (Please, Clean Up Your Room!) & took pictures with us. We even recorded a video as part of raising awareness for the store as they prepare to change locations for more space. This store & beautiful owner & staff, are definitely a diamond in the rough, bring Peace & Love to all who enter their doors. I encourage you to visit & take a journey into a place where the outside world goes on pause as you dive into a world of imagination & Peaceful freedom. With that, as part of the campaign to raise awareness for the store, I say, “I am a Different Booklist Cultural Center.” Please visit! I know will be back there very soon♡ Love yourself & be yourself. Peace & Love ♡☆

It’s another new day ♡ In that we carry gratitude for Life again & the ability to live 🙂
Today’s Wellness Wednesday post comes from a conversation I had with some acquaintances recently. The topic of feeling joy when in a troubled or non-ideal situation came up. One person said, “Well, come on now. Who really feels joy when they are in a tough situation? How realistic is that?”Both my other acquaintance & I said that it isn’t so much that you feel happy when you faced with adversity, but it’s your perception of it. Many times our inner Peace gets challenged by situations or circumstances that come up in our lives. Sometimes we blame ourselves, we blame others, we mope, we feel depressed, or whatever else comes up that steals our joy. As much as these feelings are normal & at times to be expected, there is always a flip side. In high school, a friend of mine told me that my optimism was annoying. She would roll her eyes & say, “Dee, if I broke my leg you’d say, ‘that’s sucky, but at least your bones will heal stronger after your cast comes off.'” Perception is key. A messed up situation often has another side to it, where we can learn something important, find something deep inside we forgot aout or never knew was missing. If we perceive the blessings in times of despair, we can find that joy that seems unrealistic, & in that, restore the Peace we thought was lost. Be blessed 🙂 Love yourself & be yourself. Peace & Love ♡☆

This Terrific Tuesday post comes from an inspirational quote I read the some time ago. It got me thinking about how we are much more powerful than we think. As human beings, we strive for progression. Some things may dampen our Spirits, make us doubt ourselves, &even cause us to stagnate our own growth. But we are stronger than we think. Each of us have a special gift to share with the world. Our gifts are what set us apart as individuals, but it also what brings us together in unity. Comparing ourselves to others, thinking someone has more than us or is better than us, only dims our light & causes us to forget what truly makes us shine, what we can actually bring to the table. This Terrific Tuesday, take a good look in the mirror and tell yourself, “I am Terrific!” You may not have discovered what your unique gift is but search & you will find, ask & you’ll get an answer. Love yourself & be yourself. Peace & Love ♡☆

Happy Monday to you all 🙂 With a new week beginning, don’t give up! And with that, there are always two sides. Either we are about to reach the goal & are in the process or we have reached the goal & are wondering where to go from here. In both circumstances, don’t give up! We may have reached the goal we have been working so hard towards & feel satisfied with our accomplishments. It’s awesome to know that all your hard work has paid off. Why stop there? There is always more to see, to learn, to expeirence, & in our growth, we must strive to not become stagnant, to not give up just because that one task is completed, but to keep moving up & onward! Then there is the flip side, where many of us feel we are there more often than not, & we feel tired & discouraged by the journey & situations in our lives while pursuing our goals. Many times that point of giving up is the point in which our breakthrough is not too far away. Hang in there & give the process patience & Love. You will get there ♡ Love yourself & be yourself. Peace & Love ♡☆

Good morning ♡
I hope everyone had a Terrific Tuesday yesterday 🙂 Today’s Wellness Wednesday post is something to uplift you on this last official day of Summer. At times we feel a sense of loss when the Summer ends, as we say goodbye to longer & warmer days, outdoor swimming pools & beaches, barbecues & great seasonal recipes. No need to feel like you’re missing out, as all things in life have seasons. Nothing lasts forever but rather, they evolve into something different, something new. When we feel like we are missing something, it creates a sense of lack, a void space in our hearts that we feel only that one thing can fill.
But as with Nature, as seasons change, everything we need is right where we need it. In Winter we sleep more, the darkness is longer, & we take time to stay warm & keep close. This gives us yhe time we need to replenish. In the Spring, we start to bloom & branch out, getting ourselves ready for what’s in store after a season of hibernation & restoration. Summer time is the time to be out & about, exploring new things revisiting fun places creating new experiences, making use of the strength & knowledge we cultivated throughout the Winter & Spring. And last but not least, Autumn brings forth the new changes, giving us time to reflect on the brightness & new lessons of the Summer, preparing us again for the slow down & coldness of Winter.
Mother Nature always gives us clues, that even though things change, we are still going to be okay. We are simply but intricately on our way towards out better selves, one season at a time. Love yourself & be yourself. Peace & Love ♡☆

It’s Terrific Tuesday & as a reminder to feel Terrific, be the sunshine you want to feel in your life 🙂 Sometimes all it takes is a kind word, a warm hug, or a bright smile to lift the Spirit & remind you of your Peace(ful)state of being. Not only does it do wonders for yourself, but being your own light can cause others’ light to shine too ☆ Love yourself & be yourself. Peace & Love ♡☆

Good morning ♡
Welcome to another Monday 🙂 where the hustle & bustle tries to sink us into sour moods & “why I hate Monday” memes & quotes. But what a day for gratitude?! Every day is a great day to find something to be grateful for. There’s nothing like looking to towards the positive to set the ground work to develop a stronger feeling of Peace & see what areas require further improvement. What are you grateful for this beautiful day? One thing I can say I am grateful for is the preset moment. Many a time we get stuck in the past or focus so much on what may or may not come in the future, that we miss what is happening right her & now. Being grateful for what is present, whether favorable or not, we open ourselves up to seeing what is right in front of us & see what is working & what needs work. Try making a list of what you are grateful for today & read it as the week goes along, finding upliftment when times test your Peace. Love yourself & be yourself. Peace & Love ♡☆

It’s another Feel Free Friday! I hope everyone had a good week 🙂 Sometimes, we expect the worst from waiting. But what if we let go of the anxiety of wait & embrace the space in-between our starting point & goal, we learn how to be okay with where we are as there is always room for growth. It is these spaces that bring us some of the greatest lessons & rewards 🙂
Today’s story comes from an interaction I had with a clerk at the book store a couple weeks ago. Her pleasant attitude definitely made the wait easier & I even got more than what I expected in the end.
A sleepy Sunday afternoon, beautiful clear blue sky, sun shining brightly, the day felt good. On this gorgeous day, I met a lovely woman who was so kind, so helpful, & extremely pheasant. As a Black woman, walking into a store comes with its own complexities. Clerks follow you around, ask you if you need help a thousand & one times, but this lady, she was just so kind. She didn’t do anything extraordinary, but just her demeanor, helping me with what I needed, the use of manners & cordialness. The vibes I felt from her were so sweet, I had to compliment her. What stood out for me most in reflection of this experience was how her kindness made it so much easier to wait. There were a couple of things she had to check for me & asked me, “Do you mind waiting while I….?” No problem! I looked at some other books & items & patiently waited until she came back. All in all her customer service skills were on point. And I told her so. She thanked me graciously & said, “I am almost want to cry, that was so nice to hear that; but I’m too sensitive so don’t mind me.” “We are not too sensitive,” I told her, “it’s okay that we just feel deeply.” She smiled & thanked me again. As I left the store, I thought about how we never know what a person is really going through inside. A simple smile & kind word can really do wonders to lift someone’s soul. Also, the lesson of patience was evident, as her kindness & courteous manner made the wait that much easier & pleasant. I even got more than what I expected (3 for 1 book deal!). Good things come to those who wait, productively 🙂
I hope that this week’s theme of Patience helped someone really examine their own patience practices & apply more effective ways to exercise it (I know I did; the deep breathing is wonderful!). This weekend, please continue to practice & watch as you feel less anxiety & more Peace. Enjoy the weekend & see you next week. Love yourself & be yourself. Peace & Love ♡☆
